Jack Smith worked at a service station near the city of Roswell, GA in the 1940's. He started racing against the local traffickers in the area. He was not picky "he would of coarse dirt, superspeedways, or on the fields of race."I used to watch the guys before the war out in Lakewood and knew that I could do that. "When I alt I entered a race in Thomaston." This was Jack's first race in 1946. "I qualified second national title holder Roy Hall, but after the race started I spun from a whole bunch, so I knew that I'd like some learning about me." 1949 Drove his first NASCAR event in Charlotte (now Lowe's Motor Speedway) and Jack drove at Darlington place 13 1954 in one of his most memorable races. He tried, the leader, fireball Roberts to chase and crashed over the wall. Be tilted car five times and landed in the parking lot. "Daddy drove in the rough and tough days," said his son, Jackie.
"He was a man." He ran hard. He had wide shoulders, large weapons. They ran, and they fought back. It was a hard life. "Jackie Smith, said."It was to make little round. They had all jobs during the week. It was not for the money that they ran. "It was for the love of the sport".
From 1961, Jack won the first race for NASCAR's premier series in the BMS. It was the volunteer 500. 18,000 fans watched as he took the chequered flag with some help relief at the wheel by Johnny Allen. Legend fireball Roberts said that Jack Smith was one of only four riders, could withstand the pace of increasing speeds (in Daytona). Average approximately 155 mph at that time there were accelerated. In 1955, Jack began a chain of food stores in his hometown. Food City sponsors of the BMS of annual spring Sprint Cup race, the Food City 500 later became more than 30 years. The chain also nationwide sponsor Food City 250 in August. 21 WINS are Jack Smith at number 24 on the all-time wins-list.
